The Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT) is a contract research organisation involved in many international assignments. With its more than
3,000 employees, VTT provides a wide range of technology and applied research services for its clients, private companies, institutions and the public sector. Turnover is 230 million Euro.
VTT serves annually over 5,000 domestic and foreign customers. VTT’s research covers a broad range of technologies: information & communication, energy, industrial processes and systems, materials and manufacturing, biotechnology and life sciences, as well as building and transport. VTT Processes focuses in services for energy and forest clusters aiming to develop efficient and environmentally sound energy and process technologies. It has a staff of 650 with two thirds having an academic degree. The budgeted turnover for 2003 is 56 million Euro: domestic private sector 36%, domestic public sector 28%, foreign countries 11% and basic governmental funding 25%.
VTT Processes has core competencies in the following fields: Energy production, including fuel cells, gasification and gas cleaning, liquid biofuels, heat production, fluidised-bed combustion, and wood and peat production, Nuclear energy, Emission control, Systems and models, Paper and mineral Industries and Materials and chemicals.
